Innovative Software Systems

The Innovative Software Systems (BISS) division of FOTEC Forschungs- und Technologietransfer GmbH develops future-oriented software solutions at the interface between applied research and industrial practice.

Through close cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt and a broad network of industry partners, we drive forward practical innovations and support companies in using digital technologies effectively and economically.

Our focus is on interdisciplinary and technology-driven projects with the following areas of emphasis.

MIXED REALITY (AR/VR)

We develop AR and VR applications for visualizing real and simulated processes in industrial contexts. Real-time 3D models and dynamic data visualizations enable an intuitive understanding of complex relationships on a wide variety of end devices. The goal is the smart integration of mixed reality technologies in Industry 4.0/5.0 environments.

INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

Our activities in the field of data management for the Internet of Things (IoT) in business focus on the development of robust and flexible systems. These enable wireless or hybrid data collection, transmission, and integration in cloud or on-premise platforms. We use a wide variety of wireless technologies to network sensor-based systems in industrial, agricultural, and intralogistics applications.

INDUSTRY 4.0/5.0

We conduct research into the intelligent networking of machines (M2M) and human-machine collaboration. While Industry 4.0 addresses fully networked manufacturing, Industry 5.0 complements this approach with close collaboration between humans and AI-supported robotics—with a focus on product customization, sustainability, and resilience.

APPLIED AI (AAI)

Our focus on Applied AI (AAI) offers companies a wide range of opportunities for increasing efficiency and innovation. The use of large language models can automate tasks such as customer communication, text creation, and data analysis. In the field of image recognition, these technologies enable automated quality control or support warehouse management. Collaborations with other research institutions also support the successful integration of AI technologies into operational processes.

BLOCKCHAIN (BC)

The so-called blockchain is used to transmit tamper-proof information to a database used by many participants. In this context, FOTEC focuses on the following key areas:

  • Storage and depiction of a digital (product-)twin throughout the complete product life cycle
  • Sensors, which monitor and irreversibly log status and position of individual goods/products (Supply Chain Management)
  • With the aid of sensors, activities as well as status of machines and facilities can be monitored, which is an alternative to cloud-technology (machine and facility monitoring)

CROSS-PLATTFORM-DEVELOPMENT

We develop platform-independent software solutions with uniform business logic and a consistent user experience. Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, web, smartwatches, TV, and embedded systems are supported. This enables us to provide efficient, sustainable software development for a wide range of device classes and hosting environments, such as various cloud providers and in-house hosting (on-premises).
