FOTEC has established the department of Business Engineering 2020. In addition to the design and development of novel digital product ideas, the focus is on digital business models and the application of machine learning algorithms. The classic disciplines such as product lifecycle management and logistics are also covered.

Smart products usually comprise of soft- and hardware. They integrate sensors, information and actuators. In order to be successful with the products in the long term, suitable methods of requirements elicitation as well as the creation of a product strategy and an associated business model are necessary. FOTEC deals with the functional design of new products as well as the expansion of existing products.

Manufacturing companies increasingly rely on the implementation of QA, SCADA, ERP, MES and production planning systems. However, the information gained is not fully exploited. At this point, FOTEC offers support in a wide range of areas such as predictive maintenance or quality assurance - from data collection and analysis to generation of machine learning algorithms.

In the digital world, products are often not paid instantly. Sometimes they are even paid by third parties. Functional requirements are increasing due to changes in revenue streams. A product increasingly consists of information and the associated customer loyalty. FOTEC deals with the conception of key activities, key resources, payment methods and the associated cost structures.
